bizarre. good evening. >> stanley jacob son was last seen in february with this woman, regina butler. they found him at these apartments. why did it take so long? >> reporter: we have learned that police say the woman arrested in this case has confessed to the killing and that she will be charged with murder. they say the victim was stabbed multiple scenes and the crime scene was bad. >> reporter: she's been looking for her grandfather, and it turns out he was right under everybody's noses the whole time. you didn't smell anything? >> yes. it smelled like garbage. today you really smelled the dekay. >> reporter: he had been stabbed and his body stuffed under his mattress. she reported her grandfather missing, and nobody noticed the decomposing body in his apartment until the smell got really bad. >> at first it was a relief knowing he was there, and then i felt that i have been in here three times and didn't see him and that almost made me pass out. >> reporter: they says police have arrested this woman, 47-year-old butler. the granddaugh

-old girlfriend regina butler was arrested yesterday after she returned to the home. the family thought she was stealing his social security checks. >>> it is moving day for dozens of homeless camping on public property down in the south bay. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec now in san jose where warnings went out several days ago but a lot of people don't want to move. >> reporter: some people are making movements though this morning in advance of the city coming in for a sweep after 72 hours' notice. this is on spring street. we have spoken with that gentleman here who has been here for months. he said that he is planning on heeding the city's warning. but he wanted to enjoy his last 72 hours here. the sweep is expected to begin today but it could be changed. plans could be changed because the ground is pretty muddy from a recent rain. between 100 and 160 people have been living in this homeless encampment near the guadalupe river one of about 60 camps throughout santa clara county but this has been more noticeable because it's in the flight path of the san

regina butler and charged her with murder. his granddaughter says the family has always suspected butler, who the family believed to be homeless. >> and latched on to a senior that had an apartment and some place for her to hide out in and, you know, he's --you know, diminished capacity. >> reporter: police now say they believe jacobson's body had been in his unit at the hilltop manor senior apartment the entire time. it was discovered only yesterday. missing persons detectives even visited the apartment on february 22nd and did not find anything. >> i have actually seen the photos. they went in and actually did exactly what they were supposed to do, which is photograph a scene just in case it later becomes a crime scene. >> reporter: san jose police spokesman jason dwyer says the body was well concealed. >> not many people if any would have found this body. it was underneath a lot of clutter. >> reporter: the family had suspected that butler was stealing jacobson's social security checks and so-called -- and so called police when she arrived

now -- two suspects are in custody linked to two murders in the last few days. police arrested regina butler in connection to a murder of 69-year-old -- stanley jacobson. police say, at some point over the last few weeks, jacobson must've shown up at his apartment without anyone noticing. and was killed. today -- police describe how jacobson's body was discovered. the victim's body this is a photo of the victim -- 69-year-old stanley jacobson -- >> yesterday, the granddaughter expressed that the girl friend was here. she responded. they contacted the suspect. and installed on calling police. and said let us go inside and wait. while she was inside the apartment we located the body. >> pam: jacobson, who suffered from dementia-- went missing back in early february. >> this man. is accused of a stabbing another man to death. vincent gallegos is facing murder charges. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc7 news. the victim -- in his twenties, was found near guadalupe oak grove park. on wednesday. it's not yet known what led up to the incident nor the motive. >> is this a
